Amodu agonizes over Mikel position
Nigeria coach Shuaibu Amodu admits that he faces a dilemma in deploying midfielder John Mikel Obi.
The Chelsea star started off as an offensive midfielder early in his career, but under Jose Mourinho, was deployed as a holding midfielder, a position he continues to play at Chelsea.
Amodu, like other Nigeria coaches, prefers to employ him as a playmaking central midfield player and the coach admits that Mikel may get confused.
"Mikel is neither here nor there now and we should appreciate what the boy is going through psychologically in having to adjust between two positions."
"I like to count on his professionalism that if we chose to ask him to play in front of defense he will adjust himself there because he is a professional.
"And if we ask him to attack he should free himself and attack, use the ball well and try to score," Amodu told KickOffNigeria.com.
And he maintains that so far, the starlet has acquitted himself well, "He is a versatile player and he has been making the adjustment and that makes him better.
